  • What's in my mind

That's been one of my mantras - focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.

The human body has billions of cells performing different functions in a very complicated process that is under phenomenal control. If something goes wrong and that control is lost then some cells can escape the control mechanisms and they will continue to grow and may spread into what we call cancer.

  • My hustle

    CATSystem Programmer, Since March 2019

    Kansas City, United States

We have developed a cancer research electronic medical records system that has surpassed its initial aim for managing just cervical cancer research data in Kenya. CATSystem is now a platform that can be easily adapted to collect, store, analyze and report comprehensive data on any type of cancer to improve patient care and conduct cancer research in Kenya and around the world.

    Analyst, Since November 2019

    Kansas City, United States

I assist a team of US based data analysts by developing and maintaining SQL queries needed to pull data off of the HITSystem databases for Kenya, Tanzania, and Malawi. I also develop and maintain a project dashboard that shows study milestones in real-time and present the data in form of graphical charts. I develop and monitor data quality checks that help site-coordinators stay on top of the isues they need to track.

Health Informatics Coordinator, From June 2018 To Feb 2019

    Siaya County - Siaya, Kenya

Coordinated KenyaEMR, IQCare, eHTS, PSMART, T4A, and other HIS activities in Siaya county. Developed Health Information System solutions for VMMC.

    Programmer, From 2017 To 2018

Homa Bay County - Mbita, Kenya

I was responsible for designing and developing electronic MCH Forms/Registers in OpenMRS. I also developed and maintained MCH reports into the system. Part of my duty was to configure and maintain SMS Text Messaging platform which was an important part of the project. I managed data synchronization across all intervention sites and was responsible for monitoring the eMCHR dashboard.

Assistant Programmer, From 2015 To 2016

    Kisumu, Kenya

I supervised the organizations's data synchronization activities for two years, managing the flow of data for about 100,000 patients from 150 remote health facilities into one main central server to facilitate a centralized data analysis and reporting framework. In the process, I developed numerous automated functionalities to support this mission.

I was also resposnsible for the design, development, and maintenance of data collection forms in the FACES OpenMRS. I automated system reports, backup procedures, emails, and central linux server maintenance processes.

    Assistant Programmer - FACES, 2016

    Kisumu, Kenya

Quite a simple system own its own but with amazing functionalities, the Protocols system marked my debut into the field of medical research making it the first production web app I ever built and deployed after college.

I designed and developed the Protocols Management System to help in the management of KEMRI RCTP study protocols. The system has functionalities that enable the organization to keep track of study protocols application and renewal processes. It includes an automated email reminder that sends alert emails to principal investigators whose protocols are about to expire. This helped the organization achieve 100% zero delays in the protocol renewal and submission processes.

ICT Student - Kisumu National Polytechnic, 2014

    Kisumu, Kenya

This was fun! During my final year at Kisumu National Polytechnic, I joined hands with a fellow student to develop a custom Library Management System for the institution. The project started after one of my lecturers rejected my plan to build a full scale library system for my final year project. Instead, he advised me to work on an alternative smaller project that I had presented its plan earlier, and suggested that I continue with my bigger project after the examination and potentially sell it.

In the end, we never really sold it to the college but took it as an apportunity to make something for the real world. We ended up developing and implementing a fully functional library information system, barcoded all the library books and trained the staff. The system streamlined a number of processes in the library including Book lending, late fee billings, and stock taking. The management got interested and funded the project to purchase a small security gate which we configured to beep when someone naugty tried to walk out with a book without checking it out.

That year, the library was voted the most improved department.

ICT Student - Kisumu National Polytechnic, 2013

    Kisumu, Kenya

Programmed the Institution's Game Robots for the Years 2013, 2014, and 2015. The projects were sponsored by Japan International Corporation Agency (JAICA) in collaboration with National Comission for Science,Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI).

As the Robot Programmer, you are expected to Lead the Team of Engineers including Building and Construction Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical and Electronics Engineers, as well as the IT Teams since your work touches and is affected by each of these disciplines.

Our robot scored the most innovative robot awards for two consecutive years.

I've also coached students from nearby institutions working on similar projects. Of particular interest is a team of students from St. Joseph's Nyang'oma Technical Training Institute for the Deaf. They went ahead and won the best award in the disability category, during the 2017 regional championships held in Nakuru, Kenya.
